Hollow Knight: Silksong Reveals Update 3 Patch Notes

Team Cherry has outlined the next Hollow Knight: Silksong update, which is already available for beta testing, with some limitations. The new release introduces expanded controller support and various Hollow Knight: Silksong bug fixes, among other novelties.

October 4 will mark the one-month anniversary of Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s massively successful launch. Since then, Team Cherry has released two updates for the hit metroidvania, both of which debuted as part of the game’s beta branch on Steam and GOG before rolling out to everyone.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Update 3 Promises Expanded Controller Support and More

The third patch continues this pattern, having reached the GOG and Steam versions of Hollow Knight: Silksong on September 27. A significant portion of the currently experimental build is dedicated to bettering the game’s controller support, which Team Cherry has expanded to include Sony’s DualSense Edge. The macOS version of the game has also received support for additional controllers as part of this release, the patch notes read, though without listing specific gamepad models or drivers.

On a similar note, the new Hollow Knight: Silksong update includes fixes for smaller controller issues, as well as one bigger annoyance: the fact that the game would not pause when a gamepad disconnected. A controller disconnect is something many players experience on a regular basis, commonly because they run out of battery, and the previous lack of an industry-standard auto-pause feature caused enough deaths to prompt some complaints on social media.

The upcoming update also resolves a niche bug that could make players get permanently cursed. Without venturing into concrete spoilers, this seems to be an issue that materializes during Hollow Knight: Silksong Act 2. Several instances of the same problem have already been addressed by Team Cherry prior to this patch. The exact wording used in the new changelog suggests this particular bug should now be completely eradicated. If the previous patches are any indication, the fix will work retroactively and won’t require players to reload to an earlier save or start a new playthrough.

The third Hollow Knight: Silksong update does not yet have a release date. Its two predecessors spent only a few days in beta testing before reaching the stable channel, so this patch is likely to follow suit, thus being expected to arrive between late September and early October 2025. In the meantime, PC users can try the experimental build by switching to the game’s beta branch. On Steam, this involves selecting the game in the library, opening Properties, and opting into the public beta via the Betas tab. GOG users must install the (otherwise optional) GOG Galaxy launcher to do the same. Once installed, the beta branch can be enabled through the Manage Installation menu under the Configure option, which provides access to the beta channel in the Installation section.
